ABOUT : Victoria Anne Cornwell King MA FRSA is a UK based Classical Fine Artist, Academic, Writer & Creative Consultant.

King draws upon her own personal history and life experiences in her work. to develop narratives which explore aspects of contemporary life in the 21st century. She also draws upon her research skills to profile and celebrate the work of key Renaissance artists to shed light on their life, history and creations.

King celebrates the legacy of particular Renaissance Master Artists; Vermeer, Botticelli, Massacio, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Caravaggio, and Artemisia Gentileschi. She also uses Traditional Methods and Techniques within her work to perpetuate the legacy of these special artists across Time, when new techniques were evolving in conjunction with the optimistic notion of a new ‘Age of Enlightenment’.

Victoria Anne Cornwell King MA FRSA originally studied Fine Art with artist Charles Gebherd who had trained at The Royal Academy School London. Early art studies covered Life Drawing, Portraiture, Still Life, creating work across media – in charcoal, graphite, pen ink, pastel, acrylic and oil paint. Concurrently King also studied Classical Ballet/Russian Style from 11-18 years to a professional level with Miss Kathleen Crofton, a talented protegee of global Prima Ballerina Anna Pavlova who became a soloist with the Markova-Dolin Ballet Company. This highly intensive training covered the foundations of classical ballet, pas-de-dux, and character.

Ultimately however, King focused on her Art Studies, completing a Foundation Course at Hornsey College of Art, followed by Degree studies at Walthamstow School of Art/UEL. Her tutors here included Sir Peter Blake RA, Olwyn Bowey RA, Richard Rome RA, Jack Smith, Fred Dubery RA Tutor /NEAC, writer Iain Sinclair FRSL /film studies =completion of short film BECKETT.

King subsequently worked intensely for several decades across the UK creative sector, finally completing a postgraduate MA in Arts Policy & Management 1991 with Professor John Pick at The City University Business School London. In 1994 King then established AMC Arts Management Consultancy continuing to work across the creative cultural sector.

Her breadth of consultancy has included; DANCE Projects with Sadlers Wells Theatre/LCDSchool, FRESH ART Fair/Islington Design Centre, Arts Council England /IMT Gallery Project & ArtsMARK Assessor, SPACE Studios Manager/ X14Studio complexes, Hackney & Finchley Arts Festival Organiser, Arts Development Officer LBB&Dagenham/A13 Public Art Project, and ultimately specialist creative sector university Lecturer.

King then worked with Dr L Brandt at Birkbeck for 17 years as an Academic Adviser, Lecturer, and Arts Management Placements Director. The ethos of this work was to provide support and training for those who sought a career within the creative sector, by providing relevant and accessible courses. Concurrently King was also a Visiting Lecturer for Greenwich, London MetropolItan and Middlesex universities.

King therefore holds in=depth knowledge and experience of the UK public, voluntary and commercial sectors which together provide and support artistic activity. The differing politics of government support, composite fundraising/funding strategies, project planning, marketing and audience development, all essential aspects of credible arts management. As the Director of Placements her commitment to professionally mentor and train young students for a range of different careers within the UK creative cultural sector has remained paramount.

Victoria King resumed her own personal painting practice again in 1994 initially on a part time basis, and full time in 2011 on leaving her work as a university lecturer. King has maintained a professional studio at The Chocolate Factory CF1 Clarendon Road Wood Green for 22 years until the complex was redeveloped. She then moved back again to SPACE Studios Hackney Wick in 2017 again regularly participating in Open Studios.

KIng has regularly completed commissions, to include Mick Fleetwood, Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull, and exhibited her work at Kensington/Chelsea Town Hall Art Fair, Lubomirov Angus-Hughes Gallery, Le Mur Vivant Fine Art, N22 College Artists, and member of Essex Art Club. She has offered workshops and private individual tuition in Renaissance Painting and Drawing Methods/Techniques, use of composition, colour theory, mediums, glazing, the complete early training in these disciplines.

Whilst briefly a Liveryman with The Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars, King member of the Education Committee and delivered a presentation on Holbein’s Portrait Drawings to The Worshipful Company of Barber Surgeons in the City of London.

Since 2011 King has consistently researched Renaissance Methods and Techniques, with LARA (London Atelier Representational Art), David Cranswick/The Princes Drawing School, specialist courses atThe National Gallery, The Wallace Collection, The Courtauld and Oxford University.
