‘Duplicity – The Outsider’ WIP— by VICTORIA ANNE KING MA FRSA

Victoria A King Using transfer drawings,Titian’s Venus of Urbino (1538) was superimposed on to Manet’s Olympia (1883). By doing so this action revealed a clear duality of the two compositions, with key points of similarities.

This process was publicly exhibited/posted on To Instagram: vking 098 on 22January 2022. This is the private social media platform belonging to only to Victoria Anne (Cornwell) King – Copyright 2022.

“I have since completed additional private research which forms the basis of a private practice-based multidisciplinary research project. As a practising Fine Artist I am interested to explore 1)the physical, the differing compositions, varying methods and techniques, colour balance employed in the creation of each painting – alongside 2) important contextual issues, the societal sexual role of women, symbolic references within each painting, possible influences, in conjunction with the social/cultural reception of each Master Work upon exhibition”.

The Time Span between these two significant works from Master Artists Titian and Manet is x345 years, and therefore dates from the early Renaissance through to Impressionism and ultimately the birth of Modern Art.’

In depth research into Artemisia Gentileschi’s important painting Susannah & The Elders – using the traditional Renaissance method of an initial drawing to finalise the overall composition, then completing a cartoon of this, which is then transferred onto the canvas prior to final painting.
